Psalm 106:1-5
1 Hallelujah!
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,*
for his mercy endures for ever.
2 Who can declare the mighty acts of the LORD*
or show forth all his praise?
3 Happy are those who act with justice*
and always do what is right!
4 Remember me, O LORD, with the favor you have for your people,*
and visit me with your saving help;
5 That I may see the prosperity of your elect
and be glad with the gladness of your people,*
that I may glory with your inheritance.
The Psalm today in Morning Prayer is Psalm 106:1-18. The first verses of the Psalm caught my eye, though the rest of the Psalm is worth a look as well. It goes on for 48 verses confessing the sins of Israel, and retelling the story of God’s people and their failures. And yet there is good news-God remains steadfast.
43 Many times he delivered them,
but they were rebellious in their purposes,
and were brought low through their iniquity.
44 Nevertheless, he regarded their distress
when he heard their cry.
45 For their sake he remembered his covenant,
and showed compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
