Assurance

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

The epistle for Morning Prayer was Romans 8:28-39. For well over a decade as a United Methodist pastor, this passage (or portions of it) were included in every funeral I presided over.  There was great assurance in the reading and hearing of that passage time and time again.

I especially like the closing verses of that chapter.  Paul writing his great assurance to the church in Rome.

My paraphrase: “I am certain that there is nothing that can separate us from God’s love in Jesus the Christ. You name it–anything in all of God’s creation, good or bad has no power to come between us and God.”

As you live and work this day, may you hear these words of assurance and may they be manifested in your life and being,
